Prior to Trump’s nomination and election, I was a Ditto Head, an avid listener to Rush Limbaugh. I loved conservative talk radio, including Hannity, Levin, Ingram, Beck and their lesser known local radio copycats. I was also convinced that only Fox News was telling the straight story, the rest were clearly biased toward liberals. I even purchased and emplaced a sticker on my bumper that read; “I don’t believe the Liberal Media”
That all changed with Trumps nomination, election and service, as I personally observed these conservative icons, engaging in the same bias, dishonesty, and manipulation, that they had long faulted the Liberal media for doing. It’s like they were the first in line at Trump’s Kool-Aid stand and never looked back. The hypocrisy was embarrassingly blatant. Fox News was clearly not reporting to "let me decide," they were trying to indoctrinate me into supporting an immoral and corrupt campaign by seeking to make me fear the opposition, stirring up conspiracy theories, and spinning the news to support their man. It was as if they all suddenly adopted the mindset of the birthers.
I am actually thankful for Trump’s candidacy because it woke me up from the propaganda induced coma that had prevailed in my life for too long. I still remember going out to my car and crossing out the word "Liberal" on my bumper sticker. I felt great freedom in realizing that I should no longer trust the media period, liberal or conservative. I should have known that relying on self-interested human organizations for truth, whatever their political leaning, was a bad idea……now I get it. Sadly, I still see many who are totally indoctrinated by right wing media, and totally closed off to anything that contradicts their dogma.
